Solar farms for sale across the UK
Solar farms, ready to build projects and grid connections do not trade on portals. They trade off market, between principals. We broker both sides: sellers come to market confidentially, buyers register their mandate to see what is trading.
Why you will not find solar farms on a listings portal
A solar farm is an energy asset held in a company, not a house with a for sale board, and the same is true of solar parks, ready to build projects and the rural land beneath them. Owners sell for commercial reasons they rarely want advertised: capital recycling, fund rebalancing, a development pipeline that needs funding. Buyers, the funds, IPPs and family offices acquiring UK generation, do not browse; they hold mandates and expect assets to come to them qualified. So whether you search for solar farms for sale near London or Manchester, small solar farms for sale, or land for sale with a grid connection, the search ends at the same reality: the market trades off market, agent to principal, and the public listings you do see are the exception rather than the market.
That is how we work. Sellers bring us a farm, a ready to build project, or consented land with a grid connection, and get a straight view on value and a confidential route to matched buyers. The same desk handles the adjacent assets: a solar park with planning permission granted, a co-located battery storage scheme, or capacity on a National Grid or DNO connection. Buyers register what they acquire, stage, scale, regions and structure, and see real assets that fit. Nothing is published, nothing is invented, and both sides deal with one desk.

Why grid connection dates now drive the market
The GB connection queue had grown to more than 700GW of projects before reform, several times the capacity the system needs. (NESO connections reform publications, 2024)
Ofgem approved NESO's connections reform methodology (TMO4+), moving the queue from first come first served to first ready, first connected, with projects meeting Gate 2 readiness criteria (secured land rights and planning progress) receiving confirmed connection dates. (Ofgem decision on connections reform, April 2025)
The Clean Power 2030 Action Plan targets 45 to 47GW of solar capacity by 2030, roughly a tripling of installed capacity from the point the plan was published. (DESNZ Clean Power 2030 Action Plan, December 2024)
The consequence is simple: a consented solar project holding a confirmed pre 2030 connection date can be built and energised inside the current policy window, and most of the queue cannot. That scarcity is repricing ready to build projects and the consented land beneath them. If you hold one, it is worth a conversation.

“Solar assets do not trade on a portal. They trade between principals who know what a megawatt, a lease and a connection date are worth. I have spent 25 years in UK property transactions and capital, and this desk applies that discipline to solar: every seller conversation and every buyer mandate comes through me personally.
Solar farms for sale: common questions
How much does a 1 acre solar farm cost in the UK?
There is no single per acre figure: cost is driven by the grid connection, the equipment and the stage of the project, and a single acre is below viable scale for a ground mounted farm. Industry rules of thumb put utility scale solar at roughly 4 to 5 acres per MW, so meaningful projects start at tens of acres. Our guide to solar farm costs explains the components.
Can I make money from a solar farm?
Solar farms generate revenue by selling power, through a PPA, a CfD or merchant sales, and landowners earn rent by leasing land to developers. Whether a specific farm or project makes money depends on its costs, its connection and its revenue stack, which is exactly what a buyer appraises. We give sellers a straight view on what their asset is worth to the market.
Are solar farms worth it in the UK?
UK solar has strong policy support: the Clean Power 2030 Action Plan (December 2024) targets 45 to 47GW of solar by 2030. At asset level, worth depends on the individual farm's connection, consent, lease and revenues. We broker assets between business counterparties and do not give investment advice.
How do I buy a solar farm in the UK?
Very few UK solar farms are publicly listed for sale; most trade off market between principals. The practical route is to register your mandate with a specialist broker so you see assets that match your stage, scale and regions. That is what our buyer registration is for.
Do farmers get paid for solar farms?
Yes. Landowners lease land to solar developers under long leases, typically decades, with rent reviews over the term. Landowners whose land carries planning consent or an accepted grid connection can often realise more by selling; our guide to lease rates and our sell pages cover the decision.
